In fact we are never quite sure that it was not in fact mice squeaking, or whispers. It is said that the Management went away one day to a land down under, and came up with an eldritch vision of missing socks, and the critters that steal them. Of these we only know one thing: That the critters seek power in those socks and nobody knows why. Maybe that was more than one reason, but The Management cheats that way. And they are always plotting, always finding that other thing that nobody thinks to know about, and bares it to the light of day. Which The Management cannot bear to begin with.
